Should The Eagles 7s Change Coaches?

With the season over the Eagles enduring a dreadful season there are going to be questions asked whether or not Matt Hawkins should be given another year on the job. That's exactly what we discussed in our latest article at RugbyRugby.com. In the article we lay out some of the things that went well during his first year in charge and some of the things can could have gone much better. In the end we think that Hawkins should be give a little more time to sort things about before making the change.

A couple of things that couldn't fit the in the article can also provide a big more clarity. First, Hawkins is reportedly on a two year contract and if they let him go now they would still have to pay for him. U.S.A. Rugby, even with supplemental USOC funding, doesn't have a lot of money to pay one coach, let alone two. Second, they would have to have a solid replacement lined up. Alex Magleby isn't going to do it and Ben Gollings and Waisale Serevi aren't leaving Seattle. There are other domestic candidates but if U.S.A. Rugby wants to make a big splash they need to go for someone like Mike Friday, but he'll cost a lot of money to pull out of London Scottish and the U.S. doesn't have the money to do that.

What do you think? Will Hawkins keep his job for next season?
