Kutztown's Mike Lawrenson has enjoyed quite a couple of months. First he was the standout of the CRC and then he went on to star for the All-Americans during their summer season. It turns out that not just the folks in America are standing up and taking notice of his play. Lawrenson announced on his facebook page today that he is joining Counties Manukau for the ITM Cup.
"I am proud to announce that I have accepted a contract from Tana Umaga to play for Counties Manukau Steelers in the ITM Cup in New Zealand starting July 15. This is an amazing opportunity that wouldn't have been possible without support from my coaches, family and friends! Thank you Life is good!"

As Lawrenson noted Counties are coached by legendary All Black Tana Umaga but the club is scheduled to have Sonny Bill Williams on their roster this season in addition to a number of All Blacks. The team has a strong Islander/Islander descent presence on the roster and has shot up the table the last few years under Umaga. They are the current Renfurly Shield holders.
Lawrenson has been a standout for Kutztown this last year. He's a native of South Africa but is on track to represent the Eagles at some point.
