Serevi Cup Delivers High Quality Rugby

The Serevi Cup, which was held in conjunction with the National Club 7s a few weeks back, offered some of the most high-level youth 7s in the country. Both on the boys and girls side teams showed a level of skill that only bodes well for the future of youth 7s.

The homeside Washington Loggers won the boys title and a $500 check that they donated to assistant coach Sig Kohl, who is battling cancer. They beat the Oregon Redhawks in the final. Both Washington and Oregon second teams made the semi-finals. The Plate went to Washington II while the Bowl was won by Eastside, a club that has produced a number of strong players, including Aladdin Schirmer, over the past few seasons.

On the girls side APEX, a team made up of players from around the West, took home the title with a win over the Oregon Redhawks. It was a bit of an upset considering how the Redhawks had played for most of the day putting up big wins. The Minnesota Tundra won the Plate competition.

After the tournament we caught up with Director of Youth Rugby for Serevi Rugby John Young to get his thoughts on the competition and what lies ahead
