The Independence Cup, a competition that would feature a team of fringe NFL players against London Irish at Gillette Stadium on August 10th, has been postponed to 2014. RugbyLaw, the organization behind the match cited "the time from conclusion of the required contracts to the game date is not sufficient to achieve the strategic goal of RugbyLaw." The match on the 10th was to be followed up with a return match at Twickenham Stadium on August 17th.

The event was to be a precursor to a professional competition based on the East Coast if the Independence Cup were to hit its 30,000 attendance mark for the match in Boston. The event had yet to sell tickets on the Gillette Stadium website but had announced that Henry Paul would be the head coach for the American Barbarians team. The American Barbarians were to be made up of a few international players by was to mainly feature American football crossover athletes. Those athletes were to attended a training camp before participating in the match.

This makes the second big international event to be postponed this year following the Grand Prix 7's tournament that was to take place in July.
