With the Eagles 2014 now closed we are going to take a look back at some of the key elements of the season. Yesterday we looked at the team's overall record. Today we look at player's stats. Later we will look at individual elements of the team.

The Eagles stats from 2014 tell an interesting story but they don't tell the whole story. There are plenty of other stats, like tackle percentage, that are more accurate but are often not available. With that the case we went with what was available using a mixture of records from ESPNScrum and World Rugby. Because they sometimes make errors these stats may not be 100% accurate but they are close.

In total the Eagles had a total of 40 players on their game day roster in their nine matches in 2014. However, Roland Suniula, Miles Craigwell, and Angus MacLellan never saw time for the team despite being on the bench. Of the other players, 19 played in at least five matches.  Three players--Ronnie McLean, Ben Tarr, and Chad London--only saw time in one match.

Take the jump to read more.
Of the players that saw the most time Mike Petri led the way in terms of games played, started, and in minutes played (690) thanks to his appearance and start in every single match. Phil Thiel was the only other player to play and start in all nine matches but only comes in fourth in overall minutes due to Tom Coolican coming off the bench eight times. Todd Clever was the only other player to play in all nine matches (eight starts).

Next on the list is Seamus Kelly, Scott LaValla, Folau Niua, Nick Wallace, Ollie Kilifi, Lou Stanfill, and Coolican who played in all eight matches. Kelly, LaValla, and Kilifi all started their matches while Stanfill came off the bench half of the time. It's no surprise then that Petri, Kelly, LaValla, Clever, and Thiel make up the top five in minutes.

Chris Wyles and Blaine Scully each started six matches a piece and would have likely started all nine had they been available. Other players that would have played more but had limited minutes due to injury include regular fly-halfs Adam Siddall and Toby L'Estrange as well as Cam Dolan.

In terms of tries, Blaine Scully was easily the leader thanks to his hat-trick against Japan and brace against Canada. He finished with five. Wyles, Tim Stanfill, and Taku Ngwenya each had two tries a piece. Petri, Kelly, Thiel, Niua, Shalom Suniula, Samu Manoa, Andrew Suniula, Eric Fry, John Quill, and Brett Thompson each had a try.

Kicking was a strong point for the Eagles in 2014. Of their 22 tries they converted 18 of them. That's 81%. That said, they only had 13 penalties and a single drop goal on the season. Wyles did most of the kicking with nine conversions and nine penalties. Niua was next with two conversions and two penalties. Siddall had three conversions and two penalties while Ronnie McLean had two conversions.
