Utah Downs St. Mary's

The University of Utah have pulled out another big victory, this time a 47-21 win over St. Mary's as their up and down season sees another milestone. St. Mary's rested a few key players due to their match against BYU on Saturday but given the depth of the program over the last few years it was expected the Gaels would be a little bit more competitive. That said, credit to Utah for coming out and playing a strong game, one that should put their Varsity Cup opponents on notice.

The Utes went up 19-0 at the half riding strong play from Danny Christensen and Tonata Lauti and then extended their lead in the second 33-0 before St. Mary's responded with their first try. Both teams then traded tries, first Utah answering, then St. Mary's, then Utah, and finally St. Mary's with a late try to finish up the match. As mentioned, St. Mary's will take on BYU today while Utah plays Oregon State in PAC play. The Utes sit in good position in the PAC and a win would put them firmly in second place.
