Currie Cup

The Currie Cup got underway this last weekend with the Cheetahs topping the table early. They were the only team to pick up all five points as they beat the Lions 30-29. The Cheetahs got tries from Robert Ebersohn, Boom Prinsloo, Sarel Pretorius, and Johann Sadie to pick up the win. The Lions had a chance to win it when Ruan Dreyer scored a try in the 69th minute but the conversion was no good, allowing the Cheetahs to escape.

The Griquas find themselves a surprising second in the table after a Carel Greeff try in the 82nd minute gave them a 32-30 win over the Sharks. The Griquas took an early lead but couldn't hold on an trailed 20-16 at halftime. The Sharks would score again after the break but not enough to stop the Griquas. Over in Cape Town the Blue Bulls and Western Province played to a 24-24 draw. Jean Cook scored in the 78th minute to get the draw for the Bulls. They could have won but the conversion missed. J.P. Morgan 7's

Gloucester at the 2013 J.P. Morgan Premiership 7's champions after knocking off Leicester 24-17 in the final last Friday. Gloucester finished at the top of Pool B with wins over Newcastle and Saracens. Both Saracens and Gloucester had beaten Newcastle setting up a showdown to reach the final which Gloucester narrowly won 17-14. Leicester booked their place in the final with wins over Worcester and Harlequins. Gloucester will now enter the World Club 7's this weekend.

Currie Cup First Division

It looks like no one is going to stop the Pumas as they continued their perfect season with a 69-12 win over the Falcons. The Leopards and Eagles stayed tied in the table after their clash in which the Eagles came out 50-47 winners. In other scores, the Kings beat the Bulldogs 9-6 and the Cavaliers beat the Griffons 55-32.
