Super Rugby

And then there were two. Like in the previous round neither Super Rugby semi-final proved to be a nail biter as the Highlanders and the Hurricanes advanced with wins over Australian sides. Tickets to the final reportedly sold out in a minute. The closest match was the Highlanders over the Waratahs but even that ended up 35-17. The match was even throughout the first half (ending 15-14 for the Highlanders) and the Waratahs even went up in the second half when Bernard Foley hit his fourth penalty of the match for a 17-15 lead. However, the Highlanders were too much, especially Lima Sopoaga, Patrick Osborne, and Waisake Naholo. In the other match the Hurricanes ran out to a 19-3 lead before eventually beating the Brumbies 29-9.

Shute Shield

Manly and Eastwood continue to battle for the top spot in the Shute Shield. Both ran out to big wins over the weekend with Eastwood beating Penrith 129-0 and Manly beating Eastern Suburbs 53-24. Outside of those two teams there is a battle for the final two playoff spots. Southern Districts and Warringah currently occupy those spots. Warringah beat Souths 26-12. In other scores, Northern Suburbs beat Gordon 31-12, Randwick beat Parramatta 43-28, and Sydney University beat West Harbour 41-31.
