In a press release the University of Minnesota men's rugby team has announced that it has hired Rob Holder as head coach. "Rob has been intimately involved with rugby at its highest levels not only in Minnesota but the world over. With an extensive resume which speaks for itself, we believe that Coach Holder will launch Minnesota Men's Rugby to the highest levels," said the release.
Holder was former the head coach at Air Force, where he won a national championship, Director of Rugby at Stanford, head coach of the East Palo Alto Razorbacks, and manager of the Eagles, as well as a former All-Americans coach. Holder may be most well-known for his founding of the Spearhead Academy, a center dedicated to helping young rugby players develop their skills. The hire is a big move for the Minnesota program that looks to improve in Big 10 play. The team finished 2-3 last season and second to last in the Big Ten West standings.
