Boston College Press Release

The current Boston College Men’s Rugby Club (BCRFC) would like to announce that
head coach Jeff Monfette will be leaving the team. With a growing family and increasing
demands placed on Division I coaches, Monfette has decided to step aside after leading very
successful fall and spring seasons.

Monfette said, “It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing I will not be back as
coach of the Club this fall. It’s been an honor and privilege to have been associated with BC
Rugby over the past 7 years. We have accomplished many great things together, and I truly feel
that I am leaving the program in better shape both on and off the field from when I first began.”

Current leadership of BCRFC added, “[we] would like to publicly thank Coach Monfette
for working so hard to improve our club. You have helped set a new standard for BC rugby and
your dedication has not gone unnoticed. We are sad to see you go but wish you the absolute best
in your future endeavors.”

Monfette joined the Eagles coaching staff in 2006 as an assistant and was named the
head Coach in 2010. Under Monfette, the club saw great success on the pitch, amassing a 27-13
record and soaring to top contention within the East Coast Rugby Conference. The Eagles
finished the 2012 ERC season tied for 1st place. Other significant accomplishments include the
2011 CRC Rugby 7’s championship, 2011 East Coast Conference 7’s championship, 2012 Jesuit
Classic Championship and the 2013 Beanpot Championship.

Monfette has been critical to BC Rugby’s success, bringing a very modern, fast paced
and explosive style of play to the team. His presence as coach will be sorely missed. The Club
also recognizes the contributions of several key members of the staff during Monfette’s tenure –
Jason Lett, Justin Goonan and Tony Dow. All of those associated with the Club thank Monfette
for his time and dedication in building a more competitive team on the pitch and stronger
membership surrounding the Club.

The Boston College Men’s Rugby Club, and its alumni network, the Friends of
BCRFC, have formally established a selection committee to lead a search process to
identify a head coach candidate to replace Monfette. The search for a new head coach will
commence on July 15th 2013 and conclude on August 1st 2013. The search committee will
be headed by Hugh Galligan (bcrfccoaching@gmail.com). Please contact Hugh Galligan
with further inquiries.
