The quarterfinals are now set with pool play coming to a close at the National Club 7s. Easily the most compelling of the third round matches was NYAC and Denver fighting for the number one seed out of Pool D. NYAC were the first to score with Justin Hundley slipping past a couple of Denver tackles. Ben Pinkelman nearly single-handily got Denver a try back with a great run but the offload wasn't controlled. The try wasn't far away though. Max de Achaval put in a lovely grubber that Michael Al-Jaboori corralled for the try. Kevon Williams then made it 12-7 before the break. He has been one of the breakout players this tournament.
The second half saw both teams come out making mistakes either with a dropped pass or a silly error. It would take several minutes before Williams scored his second of the match. Al McFarland would score less than a minute later to make it 17-12 and to give NYAC hope. However, Denver recovered the restart and were able to kick out. Also in the pool, Santa Monica beat the Austin Blacks 26-12 to claim third.

Seattle got off to another slow start but once again turned it around. Seattle's ball movement has been spectacular today but it's their defense that have given them wins. That was the case as they beat New Orleans 29-12 to take the top spot in Pool A. Shalom Sunuila (twice), Tim Stanfill, and Miles Craigwell all scored tries in the first half as Seattle led 24-0 at the break. Ross Bellaci and Ryan O'Leary scored for New Orleans in the second half. They also nearly shut out Seattle in the half until Mike Nelson scored after the hooter. Kansas City were the other team to make it to the quarterfinals from Pool A after they beat Schuylkill River 31-5. Seattle will play NYAC while Kansas City plays Denver.
The Chicago Lions claimed first in Pool C. They jumped out to a 10-0 lead over the East Palo Alto Razorbacks at the end of the first half and didn't look back. Chicago would score twice in the second half and the Razorbacks once to make the final 22-7. The Hawaii Titans beat Atlanta Old White 19-12 in the other Pool C match.
In Pool D, Old Blue scored two tries in the first have through Morgan Findlay and Andrew Kozak to lead 12-0 at the half. Old Blue dominated the majority of the possession and could have had another try had a pass out to Derek Lipscomb been on the mark. Nate Augspurger extended Old Blue's lead in the second half before Eric Duechle scored for Belmont Shore. Augspurger capped off the match with a try and a 24-5 final score to Old Blue. Finally, 1823 salvaged something on the day with a 14-0 win over the Maryland Exiles

The top seed in Pool A was on the line as the Berkeley All Blues and Chicago went head to head. Both teams had qualified for the quarterfinals but both needed to finish first in order to avoid the winner of Pool D. The All Blues jumped all over the Lions in the match going on to win 22-0. In the other match in the pool Philadelphia beat the Bluebonnets 19-12. ORSU are the Pool D winners after beating NOVA 17-7. The Mountain Selects beat New York 32-5 to come in third in the pool.
On the other side of the bracket San Diego won Pool B with a 3-0 record. They stayed perfect by beating the Furies 22-0. Old Blue and the Furies were tied in the standings heading into their final match but Old Blue's 46-0 win over Mana Whine gave them a quarterfinal spot. In Pool C the Atlanta Harlequins beat Youngbloodz 24-7 to claim the top spot. They will play Old Blue in the quarterfinals. The Surfers will play ICEF after the L.A. club hung on to beat the Sacramento Amazons 17-15.
