The Women Eagles have been automatically placed in the 2017 World Cup World Rugby announced today. The top seven teams from this year's tournament are automatically guaranteed a spot. The Women Eagles finished 6th in the tournament after losing to Australia in the 5th/6th place match. 2014 winners England, runners-up Canada, France, Ireland, and New Zealand are the other teams to automatically qualify. Wales were the 8th place team in France and will be force to qualify.
The other qualifiers for the tournament will come from the top two in the 2015 and 2016 Six Nations, a European playoff involving the third place Six Nations team and the European champions, and the two best teams from a repechage of South Africa, one team from Oceania, and two from Asia. The host for the tournament has not been selected. Additionally, the tournament is only on a three year cycle but will return to a four year cycle after the event.
