Over the last few months we've been following the developing story of a potential 8,000 seat stadium in Salt Lake City. Today the Real Monarchs, the USL Pro team that will occupy the stadium, and the Utah State Fairpark announced that they had signed an agreement to build the stadium. It's still conditional on the Fairpark extending it's lease but having an anchor stadium is expected to be the element that puts the project over the edge.
Mentioned in the release is that "it's envisioned the stadium will also host many other events and teams, including a concert series, a professional women’s soccer franchise, a men’s lacrosse and rugby franchises..." As we've noted before, MLS may be rugby's brightest hope for a professional competition. Utah also gains by having a medium sized stadium boosting their potential to host more non-Eagles matches.
