The Red River Conference opened up play with the favorites coming away with victories. The Austin Blacks made their case to be considered favorites after they beat the Dallas Harlequins 29-12. The Blacks have done a good job recruiting top college talent in the area, especially from Arkansas State and it paid off big in this match and could pay off further dividends as the season progresses.

Zach Mizell got things going early before Peter Santo would level the score for the Harlequins at 5-5. Pierce Reed added another try for the Blacks to make it 10-5 at the break. In the second half Gonzalo Sanchez Gauto would score to make it 17-5 before Jordan Highberger would make it 17-12. But that is all the Quins would get as Brendan Rams and Steve Swindall scored tries to finish off the match for the Blacks.
